Africa's Development is Driven by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA)
The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) has five regional commissions, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). UNECA was founded in 1958 with its main office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with the goals of advancing regional integration, international cooperation, and social and economic development throughout the African continent.
To address Africa's particular opportunities and challenges, policies are shaped in large part by UNECA. It conducts research, gathers information, and provides advice to African countries, regional organizations, and development partners in its capacity as a think tank and policy advisor.
Goals and Mission
Promoting equitable and sustainable economic growth in Africa is the main goal of UNECA. Among its primary goals are:

Requirements and unique abilities:
The following requirements must be fulfilled to be eligible for this internship with the United Nations Internship Program: (a) have a bachelor's degree in geography, geo nformatics, environmental science, urban planning, or a related field and be in the last year of their first university degree program; or (b) have earned a university degree as previously mentioned and, if chosen, must start the internship within a year of graduation. Technical Proficiency An extra benefit will be having a basic understanding of GIS tools (such as ArcGIS), geographical data (such as shape files, databases, geo JSON, satellite imagery, etc.), and web mapping applications. Only those selected for further consideration will be contacted due to the many applications received. To participate in the program, applicants do not need to have prior professional work experience.
Languages: The United Nations Secretariat operates in English and French. Fluency in both written and spoken English is necessary for the advertised position. It is advantageous to have working knowledge of the other.
