Pharo Integrated Manufacturing and Agriculture Job Opening

The Pharo Foundation's commercial, for-profit division, Pharo Ventures, was established to invest in businesses in a range of East African industries to capitalize on the strength of a thriving private sector. Building and expanding commercially and environmentally sustainable firms is the goal, emphasizing maximizing the creation of jobs and economic value for the local communities.

To assist our Credit Services team in tracking down and collecting payments for laboratory and clinical services rendered to clients, we seek an enthusiastic and meticulous intern. With an emphasis on credit sales collections, this intern offers practical experience in financial paperwork, client relations, and credit management in a healthcare or laboratory services setting.

The difficulty: From a macroeconomic perspective, Ethiopia has low competitiveness, which impedes the growth of manufacturing, job creation, and exports. Ethiopia has a significant competitive edge in the agricultural sector, but value addition and manufacturing are constrained by a difficult business climate and a lack of essential infrastructure. Among other things, this disparity restricts the private sector's capacity to expand and compete, which impedes the potential for exports and job development.

Our response: For the private sector to function as a self-sustaining engine of Ethiopian growth, it is necessary to dynamize it from the bottom up to overcome these contextual barriers. Pharo Ventures carried out a high-level evaluation of the possible opportunities in five Ethiopian sub-sectors, concentrating on the potential for significant value addition and employment development. The company ultimately decided to launch its first venture in specialty oil processing. According to this viewpoint, Pharo Ventures started construction on a processing plant at Debre Birhan in the middle of July 2023. It is anticipated that the facility will open in the second quarter of 2024.
